Caesars Head State Park and Raven Cliff Falls
Caesars Head State Park in Greenville County SC is the headquarters of the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area and a popular tourist attraction, particularly during the fall foliage season. Just a short drive up US Highway 276 through Travelers Rest, SC, Caesars Head State Park is 30 miles from downtown Greenville, SC and two miles from the North Carolina state line. In this video, Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area Park Manager Michael Trotter takes viewers along a portion of the park’s 60 miles of hiking trails and visits Raven Cliff Falls, one of the most visited attractions of the park. At approximately 420 feet, Raven Cliff Falls is considered the king of South Carolina’s waterfalls and the tallest falls located completely in South Carolina. A very popular 4.4-mile roundtrip trail leads to an overlook across the gorge from the falls. Trotter also explains the paint blaze system of the trails and talks about the hiker registration system that helps ensure the safety of hikers. Also in this video, viewers meet one of the volunteers of the park’s Hawk Watch program. From September until late November, volunteer watchers count the number of broad wing hawks and other raptors as they migrate to South America and their winter hunting grounds.
Caesars Head State Park is open Monday through Sunday from 9 am until 6pm with hours of operation extended to 9 pm during Daylight Savings Time when trails close one hour before sunset. Admission is $2 for those aged 16 and older and $1.25 for South Carolina seniors. Those 15 and younger can enter the park at no charge.
