Bridges From Augusta, Inc.

Princella Lee Bridges sustained burns on more than 49 percent of her body when her home in Greenville, SC caught fire several years ago. Having made it out safely, Princella went back in to her burning residence to save her 10-year-old daughter not realizing that firefighters already had rescued the child. In this video, Princella talks about her real-life experience as a burn survivor and the challenges she had finding resources to reintegrate into the Greenville community after a five-month stay at the Joseph M. Still Jr. Burn Center in Augusta, GA. Those life experiences led the former
operating room nurse and Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve to establish Bridges From Augusta, a nonprofit organization serving burn survivors in the Upstate of South Carolina. As founder and executive director of Bridges From Augusta, Princella works with volunteers and donors to offer transition planning for burn survivors, support group meetings, burn prevention and burn care education, and a network of resources for community reintegration for burn survivors. From 2001 through 2006, more than 1,050 residents of Upstate South Carolina were admitted to the Augusta Burn Center. Bridges From Augusta helps Upstate adult individuals and families who have experienced burn injuries and trauma transition back into the community by providing education and empowerment support while building community alliances.
