Harvest Hope Food Bank

Harvest Hope Food Bank is a Christian-based, non-profit organization that collects and inspects donated food from grocery stores, food manufacturers, and food warehouses and distributes it to more than 400 non-profit member agencies in 20 counties of central South Carolina. In turn, those agencies each week feed thousands of hungry people in the Greenville, SC and surrounding areas. In this video, Harvest Hope Food Bank Area Director Vickie Brannen talks to viewers from the floor of the Upstate Women’s Show where visitors received $2 off show admission if they brought five cans of food to donate to Harvest Hope Food Bank. Brannen explains that the mission of Harvest Hope Food Bank is to provide for the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing quality food with dignity, compassion and education. From those who work minimum wage jobs to retired couples who have trouble paying for expensive medications, hunger is a reality for a growing number of South Carolinians especially in the present economic climate, Brannen says. Harvest Hope Food Bank and its member agencies work with people in need from all walks of life. With the help of donors and volunteers, Harvest Hope Food Bank was able to donate more than 19 million pounds of food in 2008, with ninety-eight cents of every dollar donated going directly to those in need. Those wishing to donate food or host a food drive can contact the Harvest Hope Food Bank office at 5200 Pelham Road in Greenville or visit the organization’s website for more information.
