JL Mann Spirit Week
Spirit Week 2009 kicks off on Friday, October 23, between Greenville area rivals JL Mann High Academy and Greenville Senior High Academy. The annual contest is a weeklong effort to raise the most money for a charity or charities selected by the student bodies of each school. Last year, JL Mann won the competition by raising $343,000 in one week. In this video, JL Mann Student Body President Maddie Garrett and Executive Council Member Hannah Pace announce the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as Mann’s designated charity for 2009. Students selected the Susan G. Komen Foundation to honor JL Mann’s Athletic Director Deb Osborne who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Coach Osborne talks about what it means to her for students to have selected the Komen Foundation and the uniting atmosphere of Spirit Week for students and faculty. Also in this video, viewers visit a
JL Mann football game as students get pumped up for the annual Spirit Week competition. The amount of money raised by both schools during Spirit Week 2009 will be unveiled during halftime of the Greenville-JL Mann football game, which begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, at Sirrine Stadium in Greenville, SC.
