The Greenville County Museum of Art, for example, has a permanent collection of 35 paintings by American artist Andrew Wyeth, with paintings from every period of Wyeth's career. For those interested in exploring and purchasing art, First Friday combines the resources of Greenville gallery owners and local artists to showcase established and emerging art talent in our community. On the first Friday of each month, 29 Greenville area art galleries and venues are open from 6 pm until 9 pm, serving wine and cheese and displaying a wide range of media including oils, watercolors, acrylics, pottery, jewelry, glassworks, woodworks, photography, and mixed media. And each May, Greenville, SC hosts Artisphere, a three-day outdoor street festival that celebrates the visual and performing arts.
Throughout the year, patrons of the arts can enjoy Broadway shows, Greenville Symphony Orchestra performances, and concerts by internationally known musicians and singers at the Peace Center for the Performing Arts. For those who enjoy the artistic expression of dance, Greenville offers a wide range of fun and entertaining classes from Shag to Salsa. The Carolina Shag Club teaches South Carolina's State Dance every Wednesday night at 6 pm at The Big Chill on Pelham Road. For more international flair, Salsa Greenville and Greenville Belly Dance offer beginner, intermediate and advanced classes several times each week at various locations throughout Greenville County.
