Carolina Ballet Theatre

Carolina Ballet Theatre has been a significant contributor to the arts and cultural scene in Greenville, South Carolina for more than thirty-five years. Founded in 1972, the professional resident dance company of the Peace Center for the Performing Arts has eight full-time dancers and three dance trainees who hail from around the United States and throughout the world. Led by Artistic Director Hernan Justo and his wife, nationally acclaimed dancer Anita Pacylowski-Justo, Carolina Ballet Theatre has developed into one of the region’s premier professional dance companies. In this video, viewers see Hernan lead a practice session at the Carolina Ballet Theatre facility on Woodruff Road in Greenville where dancers are preparing for an upcoming ‘live brochure’ during which they will perform vignettes from the 2009-2010 season. Viewers also see the talent of Anita Pacylowski-Justo, who was one of six ballet dancers worldwide and the only American nominated for the prestigious Benois de la Danse. Also in this video, Carolina Ballet Theatre Executive Director Laura Hobbs talks about the Theatre’s entertainment and education programs, including outreach initiatives such as SmartARTS, a partnership between The School District of Greenville County and the Metropolitan Arts Council. The 2009-2010 season of the Carolina Ballet Theatre begins on October 23 with ‘Mirror, Mirror. The company will perform ‘The Nutcracker’, one of the most anticipated holiday traditions in Greenville, SC on December 5 and 6.
