Carolina First Saturday Market
Every Saturday morning from May until the end of October, residents of Greenville, South Carolina can find locally grown, seasonal vegetables and fruits at the Carolina First Saturday Market. The market began seven years ago as the Poinsett Curb Market, a small open-air downtown farmers market dedicated to the sale of locally grown farm products, arts, and crafts, to attract people downtown and to provide a resource for residential development taking place in downtown. Today, the Carolina First Saturday Market features 48 vendors selling local vegetables and fruits, gourmet dog treats, homemade soaps and lotions, specialty coffees, boiled peanuts, gourmet peanut brittle, and a host of other products. The downtown farmers market also features companies from the South Carolina coast offering fresh seafood. Open from 8 am until Noon, the Saturday Market includes musical performances, cooking demonstrations, and Booth with a Cause, a weekly booth space dedicated to a local organization the focuses on health, environmental concerns, youth, or any United Way supported agency. In this video, downtown Greenville restaurateur Carl Sobocinski, a founding member of the downtown farmers market, visits several vendors at a recent Carolina First Saturday Market. Viewers also hear from Market Manager Morgan Cox, and meet several area farmers and market visitors who call the
Carolina First Saturday Market a neighborhood block party.
