Leon Everette
South Carolina native, Leon Everette, was part of the “Legends and Memories” concert tour at Greenville’s Carolina First Center. Growing up in Ward, South Carolina, Leon certainly was no stranger to country music. In fact, his favorite country singer was Narvel Felts, who is also a featured act on the “Legends and Memories” tour. In this video, it is clear that Leon is thrilled to perform with the man he idolized as a child. Leon Everette began his career while serving in the United States Navy, where he learned to play guitar in his spare time. On a whim, Leon entered a Navy sponsored talent show and won. Excited with his win, and feeding off the energy of the crowd, Leon wanted to do it again. In 1972, he entered another talent contest right here in Greenville, South Carolina. Out of the 601 competitors, Leon Everette won again. That was the beginning of a long successful career. Leon was signed with RCA records from 1980-1985 bringing to the music charts eleven straight top ten albums. Two of those records went to number one on the country music charts. His most noted moment of success came in 1981 when he received the Best New Male Vocalist award for his hit single, “Hurricane”; a song which also gave Leon his nickname. Known for his dynamic stage performance, Leon brings energy and excitement to the stage with each song he sings. The thrill of performing for a crowd is still what Leon Everette loves most. For more information visit Leon at
