Greenville, South Carolina has numerous educational opportunities including an award-winning public school system, more than 65 private schools, and institutions of higher learning offering four-year degrees and continuing education for working adults and seniors. With more than 69,000 students, the Greenville County School District is the largest public school system in South Carolina and the fifty-first largest in the United States.

The School District of Greenville County includes The Fine Arts Center, the first secondary school for specialized arts instruction in South Carolina. Students audition each year to attend the Fine Arts Center and are selected based on talent, interest, motivation, and commitment to study theatre, dance, visual arts, music, music engineering, creative writing, or digital film making.

Greenville also is home to The South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, a public residential high school for emerging artists. And, the Roper Mountain Science Center provides academic and enrichment classes in health, science and social studies, and eleven magnet schools offer specialized curriculum in languages, math, science, technology, communication arts and international studies.

Greenville also has several colleges and universities including Furman University, one of the nation's leading liberal arts and sciences institutions. Bob Jones University, the largest private liberal arts university in South Carolina, and Greenville Technical College, the largest of the state's technical colleges, also are located in Greenville. The University Center of Greenville, a consortium of seven colleges and universities - Furman University, Clemson University, Lander University, Medical University of South Carolina, South Carolina State University, University of South Carolina, and University of South Carolina Upstate, offers 600 courses and 76 degrees from its South Pleasantburg Drive location.
