Alliance for Quality Education

The Alliance for Quality Education was established in 1985 to encourage support for public education and student achievement among Greenville area businesses and organizations. The Alliance is the only local, independent, non-profit organization dedicated solely to the goal of improving public schools in Greenville County. The organization does that through advocacy and programs that promote teacher quality and parent involvement. In this video, Executive Director Grier Mullins takes viewers on a visit to Grove Elementary School, one of eight schools in the School District of Greenville County where the Alliance For Quality Education has funded a mentoring program for first year teachers during the 2008-2009 school year. The Alliance began the Teacher-to-Teacher mentoring program in 2006 to try to improve the turnover rate for first-year teachers, which is as high as 45 percent at some South Carolina schools. In this video, viewers hear from Alliance mentor Amanda Jackson and go into the classroom of first year teacher Erin Ijames, a second grade teacher at Grove Elementary. Miss Ijames talks about her experience with the Teacher-to-Teacher mentoring program and how it has helped her in the classroom. Those interested in the Teacher-to-Teacher mentoring program or other programs of The Alliance for Quality Education can call 864-233-4133.
