Furman University

Furman University is a private, liberal arts college with more than 2,600 students. Founded in 1826, the original Furman campus was located in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. In 1959, the Furman campus moved to its present location off Poinsett Highway about six miles from downtown toward Travelers Rest. In addition to academics, Furman University is a NCAA Division I school offering 17 collegiate sports programs for men and women. In this video, Furman student Brett Rayl takes viewers on a tour of the beautiful Furman campus and talks about the many features and free programs available at Furman for Greenville area residents. Viewers see The Place of Peace, a former Buddhist temple that was donated and restored on the campus, the Asian Gardens, and the Furman Amphitheatre by the lake. Furman University's Music by the Lake Summer Concert Series, one of Greenville's favorite summer traditions, is held each Thursday evening at 7:30 pm at the amphitheatre. There is no admission charge for concerts. Viewers also see the famous Bell Tower, an icon of Furman University. During the Civil War, this Bell Tower rang out each of Robert E. Lee's victories. In addition to opening its facilities to the public, Furman University also offers Lifelong Learning classes and instructional programs for children and adults, as well as non-credit classes.
