Lapsits For Early Literacy

Lapsits for Early Literacy helps underserved parents and caregivers of newborns through three year olds create a love of books and develop readiness for reading, and provides children's books for Greenville area homes. Lapsits hosts parent awareness events and sends trained readers into low-income center classrooms. Lapsits also holds weekly programs in English and Spanish for families with children ages two months to 48 months at the Children's Book Center at McAlister Square on North Pleasantburg Drive. In this video, viewers visit the Early Language Fun With Cat In The Hat event held on March 7, 2009 at McAlister Square. The 4th annual birthday tribute to Theodor Seuss Geisel, the American writer and cartoonist known as Dr. Seuss, included children's activities, exhibits and celebrity readers including WYFF-TV News Anchors Carol Goldsmith, Beth Brotherton and Nigel Robertson. The video covers fun features of the Cat In The Hat event including face painting, Dr. Seuss's ABC Teaching The Alphabet, and the Bryson Elementary School Recorder Ensemble. Viewers will also see Lapsits For Early Literacy Founder and Executive Director Sara Mansbach explaining the importance of early literacy and the success of the Early Language Fun With Cat In The Hat event in raising awareness about the benefits of early childhood education.
