Greenways Master Plan

The goal of the Greenways Master Plan is to build a network of trails and pathways that connect the municipalities with the unincorporated areas of Greenville County, South Carolina, and eventually evolve into a regional greenways plan to include both South Carolina and North Carolina. The Greenville County Recreation District is developing the plan in partnership with the cities of Mauldin, Fountain Inn, Greer, Greenville, Travelers Rest and the National Park Service. The plan is building a framework to link the Swamp Rabbit Trail and municpal trails in cities throughout Greenville County into a system that serves recreation and transportation needs in the county and provides access to the outdoors, historic sites, destinations, and points of interest across the county. In this video viewers visit a public meeting where Recreation District officials give an update of the Greenways planning process to County and City stakeholders, and seek public input. Viewers hear from Ty Houck, Director of Greenways Natrual and Historic Resources for the Greenville County Recreation District, who explains that in additon to recration and leisure advantages, the benefits of the Greenways Master Plan extend to economic development, transportation enhancement and improved air quality. Viewers also hear from officials and residents of Mauldin, Fountain Inn, Greenville and the Paris Mountain community about how the Greenvways Master Plan will benefit their areas of the county. Recent studies have shown that Greenville County residents are looking for places to walk, ride, bicycle and get out of their vehicles. County and city officials point to the hgh usage of the recently completed Travelers Rest leg of the Swamp Rabbiit Trail as an indication of public support and enthusiasm for the Greenways Master Plan.
