Greenville Downtown Airport

The Greenville Downtown Airport is located on 385 acres in the geographic center of Greenville, South Carolina. Operated by the Greenville Airport Commission, the downtown airport is the busiest general aviation airport in the state. The Greenville Downtown Airport fills a niche for corporate flying and is home to more than 25 aviation-related businesses including two Fixed Base Operators, flight schools, helicopter operator Shadowhawk Aviation, and SATSair, an air taxi service. The Greenville Airport Commission has invested heavily to ensure that the Greenville Downtown Airport remains a safe, efficient, and modern facility, recently completing extensive runway, taxiway, and apron improvements, and a major terminal renovation. In this video, Airport Director Joe Frasher gives viewers a look at Greenville from the air traffic control tower at the airport, and talks about Greenville's growth from a small Southern town to a destination city that hosted Presidential candidates Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards all in the same day and all flying into Greenville Downtown Airport. The BI-LO Center, the Peace Center, and Greenville's vibrant downtown area are only a five-minute drive from the Greenville Downtown Airport. Shopping malls, hotels, and restaurants are located just a few blocks from the airport, and the Carolina First Center (formerly Palmetto Expo Center) and The Phoenix-Greenville's Inn are next door within walking distance. The Federal Aviation Administration Southern Region recently awarded Greenville Downtown Airport its prestigious General Aviation Airport Safety Award. And in 2008, the FAA Southern Region named Frasher the General Aviation Airport Manager of the Year.
