In Greenville County, South Carolina, homeowners participate in remodeling and home and garden activities at a higher rate than homeowners in many other parts of the United States, according to research by Claritas. Greenville has a healthy list of home and garden specialists including residential remodelers, specialty contractors, landscaping companies, and custom homebuilders such as Dillard-Jones Builders LLC, the 2009 Southern Living Custom Builder Member of the Year.

For those passionate about plants and flowers, the Upstate Chapter of the Native Plant Society promotes the awareness and education of native plant species and their importance in the South Carolina landscape and history. Members of the SC Native Plant Society participate in plant rescues, botanical surveys, seed collection and lectures. Greenville also has The Greenville State Farmers Market, a 14,400-square-foot facility on Rutherford Road that is open year round and is the site of the Piedmont Plant & Flower Festival held each spring.

For those who like a one-stop shop, the annual Southern Home & Garden Show features more than 300 exhibitors displaying everything imaginable for building or remodeling a house, landscaping, or decorating a home. Presented by the Home Builders Association of Greenville each March, the Southern Home & Garden Show is held at the Carolina First Center and is the largest show of its kind in South Carolina. In 2009, the Home Builders Association of Greenville will produce the inaugural Fall Southern Home & Garden Show October 30 - November 1. The show will be a smaller, seasonal event for consumers planning fall fix-ups, remodeling projects, and seasonal decor.
