Greenville Kennel Club Dog Show

More than 3,000 dogs and their owners and professional handlers attend the Greenville Kennel Club Dog Shows held twice each year in February and July at the Carolina First Center in Greenville, South Carolina. An American Kennel Club sanctioned event, the Greenville Kennel Club Dog Show features dozens of breeds in obedience, handling and rally trials, and includes vendors offering magazines, books, food, toys and other pet-related products and services. Visitors to the Greenville Dog Show who are potential dog owners have the opportunity to interact with breeders and owners to gather information before purchasing a pet. The three-day event also includes a Junior Showman Competition, in which children ages 10-18 compete for prizes by displaying their skills in handling their own dogs. In this video, viewers hear from Linda Knorr, a Greenville, SC delegate to the American Kennel Club, and Bob Vandiver, show chairman of the Greenville Kennel Club, who talks about the economic impact of the Greenville dog shows. Estimates indicate that each Greenville Kennel Club Dog Show at the Carolina First Center brings more than $1 million to the local economy. Viewers also see an exhibition by the K-9 unit of the Greenville County Sheriffs Department. Admission to the Greenville Kennel Club Dog Show is free. The next show will be held at Carolina First Center in February 2010.
