The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale

The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale has become one of Greenville, South Carolina’s most anticipated annual events. Held each year at McAlister Square on South Pleasantburg Drive, The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale is a massive used book sale that raises money for Greenville Literacy Association, the adult literacy provider in Greenville County and the largest community-based literacy program in South Carolina. Thousands of Greenville area residents lined up outside McAlister Square anticipating the 8 a.m. opening of the eighth annual book sale held on August 22. The 2009 Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale featured more than 130,000 donated books including fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, modern and classics, hardbound and soft cover, some selling for as little as two for $1. In this video, Greenville Literacy Association Executive Director Jane Thomas talks about the hundreds of volunteers who make the annual book sale a success and the more than $500,000 The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale has raised since its inception to purchase new books and other resources for Greenville Literacy Association adult learners. Viewers also meet some of the book sale volunteers and visitors to the annual event. Books left over from The Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale are donated to other non-profit organizations in the Greenville, SC area.
