Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center is among the largest health care providers in South Carolina. GHS also is among the largest employers in Greenville County with 9,500 employees and 1,100 physicians from primary care doctors to highly-trained specialists. Greenville Hospital System includes Greenville Memorial Hospital, the system’s flagship facility located near downtown Greenville. The Greenville Memorial campus features a Level One Trauma Center, The Children’s Hospital, the Turrentine Heart Education Center, Cancer Centers of the Carolinas, Marshall I. Pickens behavioral health center and the Roger C. Peace rehabilitation hospital. GHS also operates Greer Memorial Hospital, Hillcrest Memorial Hospital in Simpsonville, North Greenville Hospital, and Patewood Memorial Hospital and outpatient medical campus on the east side of Greenville. Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center has been a teaching hospital since 1912. More than 150 residents and fellows each year come to GHS for post graduate work and Greenville Hospital System participates in more than 600 clinical trials, the most of any hospital in South Carolina.
