Advantage Greenville

Advantage Greenville is a program of The Greenville Chamber of Commerce that champions the Greenville Chamber's drive to build one of the premier business communities in the world by growing, informing, connecting and engaging Chamber members in strategic initiatives and activities to build overall community prosperity. In 2007, Advantage Greenville partnered with prominent researchers at Clemson University to create an economic scorecard that compares Greenville's economic health with select peer communities around the country. The economic scorecard is designed to focus business attention and resources on the things that matter most to increase the per capita income in the greater Greenville area to the national average. In this video, viewers attend a luncheon where the first update to the Greater Greenville Economic Scorecard is released. Viewers hear from Greenville Mayor Knox White and Greenville County Council Chairman on the state of the city and the county. Viewers also hear from Dr. David Barkley, professor of Applied Economics and Statistics at Clemson University and Director of the University Center for Economic Development. Dr. Barkley delivers the benchmarking report from the Economic Scorecard, which compares Greenville with its peer cities. Critical findings of the Advantage Greenville report include: Education is the most important driver for creating higher levels of prosperity; Greenville has made strides in most areas of the scorecard, but has not improved its rankings compared with the other communities; and all Scorecard communities are actively seeking ways of improving their own prosperity.
