Greenville Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center

For the past two years, Greenville County has ranked first among all South Carolina counties in the number of reported cases of child sexual abuse. In more than 80 percent of child abuse cases, the crime was committed by someone the child loves and trusts. The mission of the Children's Advocacy Center at Greenville Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center is to reduce the trauma to children during the investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. The center on White Horse Road offers a child-friendly environment in which children can tell their story, with center staff available to the child and his or her family throughout each phase of the investigation, legal process and recovery. In this video, viewers attend the 10-year anniversary celebration of the Children's Advocacy Center at Greenville Rape Crisis and Child Abuse Center. Viewers hear from Dr. Nancy Henderson of the Greenville Hospital System who has headed the medical component at the Center since its 1998 opening. Viewers also hear from a mother whose son was abused by her former husband. The mother talks about how support groups and classes at the Center have aided the recoveries of herself and her son. Viewers also hear from GRCCAC Executive Director Shauna Galloway-Williams who talks about the advocacy and support roles the Children's Advocacy Center plays in the Greenville community.
