PULSE In Politics

Professionals United for Leadership and Social Enrichment, PULSE, is an organization designed for young professionals ages 22 to 39 in the Greater Greenville, SC area. PULSE hosts programs for social interaction, as well as professional and leadership development opportunities. In this video, PULSE gets into politics by presenting a forum featuring the five Republicans running to represent South Carolina’s Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The event was held on October 12, 2009 at the BMW Zentrum on the campus of BMW Manufacturing Co. in Greer, SC. The candidates’ forum included U.S. Rep Bob Inglis and his four Republican challengers, Jim Lee of Mauldin, Christina Jeffrey of Spartanburg, Trey Gowdy of Spartanburg, and David Thomas of Fountain Inn. Viewers hear from Chris Collins, a member of the PULSE board and the PULSE Leadership Enrichment Committee, who talks about the PULSE mission of bridging the gap between young professionals in the Greenville, SC area and government leaders. Collins said the goal of the candidates’ forum is to encourage young professionals to know the political issues, to be educated voters, and to vote on Election Day. PULSE presently has more than 500 members across the Upstate. Members receive free admission to all social events and seminars held throughout the year, and a bi-monthly e-mail newsletter, which contains information on upcoming PULSE and community events, as well as a wide variety of other topics affecting today's young professionals.
