Upstate Forever
Upstate Forever is a non profit dedicated to the preservation and protection of land and natural resources in Upstate South Carolina. Founded in 1998, Upstate Forever is a membership based, non-profit organization with over 3,500 members. Committed to conserving and improving the quality of life in the upstate, the organization covers Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and Union counties. It works to educate the public, as well as land developers and policy makers, about land use, conservation, and growth management issues. By using a collaborative approach with politicians and developers in their advocacy and conservation efforts, Upstate Forever is a valuable resource to the leadership of the community. A vital part of the success of Upstate Forever, and of the preservation of the upstate itself, is uniting with these decision makers on issues relating to the economic and environmental well being of Upstate South Carolina. Upstate Forever divides it’s efforts into four programs that are all focused on a common goal. Whether its working on land planning and development issues, reducing the impact those developments have on our lakes and streams, or drawing up “conservation agreements” with private land owners, the mission of Upstate Forever is clear—to preserve and protect the resources of South Carolina’s Upstate. Upstate Forever is committed to educating the public by publishing a semi annual newsletter, “Upstate Advocate”, a monthly bulletin, “ The Upstate Update”, and a weekly “Legislative Update”. Members of Upstate Forever enjoy a variety of activities and field trips such as photography outings, hiking, or for the more adventurous, kayaking the Chatooga River.
